My fellow Coloradans know that making plans for any outdoor activity based on the weather is a hit-or-miss situation. Blue skies can turn on you in the blink of an eye, like when rain added an extra challenge to my outdoor pole session with Laina Reivi.

So when I drove out to East Boulder with my trusted stage pole to meet up with Lana and Jess for outdoor photos in October, I was worried about the weather, the cloud coverage, and the risk of surprise lightning, because you do not want to be caught outside with a 10ft metal pole in a thunderstorm! But Lana and Jess wanted outdoor pole photos, I had scouted a handful of different locations for them, and they chose my very favorite spot, so outdoor pole photos we would get!

Luckily I had nothing to worry about, as Colorado turned on its charm and gave us the most magical filtered lighting through the clouds, and a perfect 75 degrees to keep the polers warm and grippy! We were all laughing about the curious looks we got from the men fishing in the lake and the couples out for after work strolls, and we ended up going way over our scheduled hour of shooting because we just had to try more tricks at more angles.

The resulting photos are hands down some of my favorite outdoor photos I’ve ever shot, and I can’t wait to work with these ladies again soon!
